Qualitative methodologies allow me to illuminate the lived experiences, everyday negotiations, and decision-making processes of community members. My research is place-based, with an ethnographic sensitivity to the regional, political, and geographical contours of community life. I conduct long-form interviews that often take the form of oral histories. I also participate in local events and turn to local and regional archives to bring historical insight into contemporary events. I use descriptive statistics, mapping, and photography to better understand the changes taking place in the communities in question.
